Tennis Fashion for Spring/Summer 2018: My Picks

This has been a long, drawn-out winter and I am starting to get cabin fever from playing tennis week in, week out in a large, stuffy heated balloon. But luckily I live in Italy and I know that very soon we will have lots of warm, sunny days, and the clay court will quickly dry out, and I’ll soon be back to playing in the fresh air in my favourite summer tennis outfits.

It will soon be time to relegate those black leggings and black hoodies to the back of my activewear chest of drawers, and bring my colourful skirts, dresses and tops back to the forefront. I might even add some pastel pieces, as these feature heavily in the latest tennis fashion for spring/summer 2018. I particularly like the salmony orange colours introduced by adidas in their 2018 Roland Garros collection, and the Hawaiian feel of the latest Lucky in Love collection has me dreaming of long summer evenings (playing tennis and drinking Aperol Spritz!). My 5 Favourite Australian Open 2018 Outfits

I’m not going to lie. I haven’t actually watched much of the Australian Open this year. It is partly the timing, as I have been busy in the mornings with meetings, dentists appointments and trying to actually do some work, but it is probably because I am not obsessed enough to make the time. My partner is though, and so we have had the telly turned on to the tennis almost all the time, and from watching Game, Schett and Mats and the odd 10 minutes of a match here and there, I have managed to pick up on an important issue, the one that has brought you to this blog post – tennis fashion!

My top 5 Australian Open 2018 outfits are shown in action in the photos below, and I have put together a ‘shop the look’ for each post, thanks to my collaboration with Tennis Warehouse Europe. Let me know which look you like best. And don’t forget, if you want to pick up any of these looks you can get a 10% discount with my VIP code 40ISHLOV10!

1. adidas Women’s Melbourne Jumpsuit

Playing tennis in a jumpsuit – what a genius idea! And it can double-up as beachwear.

2. Nike Women’s Spring Maria Dress

This dress is so stylish, just like Maria. It could be a bit short, or maybe it is just that Maria’s legs are so long.

3. adidas Women’s Spring Stella McCartney Tank and Skirt

It’s all in those details: the zips, the cut-out holes, the mesh…

The Best Women’s Winter Tennis Apparel

I know I should probably add more colour to my tennis wardrobe in the winter, but you just can’t fault a stylish black, navy blue, burgundy or dark green tennis skirt or pair of leggings. I am also a big fan of skeggings, but I tend to make them myself by wearing my tennis skirts on top of leggings. The benefits of buying or creating a pair of skeggings are 1) you have somewhere to put the ball (when I wear leggings I often struggle to get the ball in and out of the waistband) and 2) you don’t have to worry about whether the leggings have transparency issues when bending over to receive a serve. Many skeggings are mid-length, which can be perfect if you are playing indoors or the weather is not too chilly, but that might not provide enough coverage if you’re playing outside – in that case, just pair your favourite longer leggings with a skirt. And with these wintery colours it is very easy to mix and match. Check out the winter tennis apparel I have picked out for you below and let me know what you think.

Gift Guide for Female Tennis Players

If your girlfriend/wife/sister/daughter plays tennis and you would like to get her something a little bit different for Christmas, then perhaps you’ll find it in my gift guide for female tennis players. I have had a couple of husbands contact me in the past, asking for advice on what to buy their tennis-loving better half, so I know first hand that there is a definite need for this guide.

For some reason I have gone for a green theme. You may have noticed that I have also recently changed the colour theme of my blog to green. It is either due to my recent plant-based diet 🌱 or it could by my Irish roots shining though 🍀.

If nothing convinces you, or you are looking for a tennis present for a guy, then read my gift guide from last Christmas here.

1. Lucky in Love Envy Print Racer Tank. I feel I should make a joke here about this top making your opponents green with envy at your tennis skills, but that is certainly not the case when I wear it… It’s a great tennis top though!

2. Lululemon Lost in Pace Skirt. This is sold as both a running and tennis skirt. I have never run in a skirt, and I’m not sure I ever will, but I have no doubt I would love playing in this skirt. Just look at that swish!

3. Nike Women’s Aerobill Featherlight Winter Visor. You might wonder why you (well, she) would need a visor in winter, especially if you are in Europe and play most of the winter indoors. Well, they also double up as great sweat- and hair-bands.

4. S’well Bottle (Waikiki). Probably the most stylish water bottle in the world, hands down.

5. Tiffany Charm Bracelet. You will score major brownie points when she sees that little blue box (though if she is your girlfriend, be careful she doesn’t think it contains something else..)

6. Sweaty Betty Super Grip Yoga Mat. If she cares about avoiding injuries, she’ll make good use of this cute yoga mat for stretching out before or after a match.

Good luck with your Christmas shopping and I’m sure she will love-all that you get her!

30Fifteen Meets 40ish-Love: Smash Hit Tennis Fashion

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who is the best dressed tennis player of them all?

Well, thanks to 30Fifteen, I am feeling pretty well dressed right now! They sent me a number of outfits from their new tennis fashion collection to review, and I have to say I am a big fan of this Cleo dress which comes in pink, blue, black and white.

30Fifteen Cleo Dress

My partner raised an eyebrow (or two) when I first put the dress on, as it is rather short at the back due to my not-insubstantial derrière (nicely cropped out of the photo above!)… So to ensure thoughts of overexposure wouldn’t distract me during play, I have been wearing the dresses with leggings, and I actually think they look very stylish. They also allow me to wear some of my thinner leggings that have, shall we say, ‘transparency issues’.

30Fifteen Cleo Dress

Another item from the latest 30Fifteen collection that has been accompanying me to many of my tennis and Pilates sessions is the Kara Match Jacket that comes in both black and white. It has a bomber jacket style and according to one of my Instagram followers, makes me look ‘sharp’. Enough said!

Let me know what you think of these looks below!
